Kitchen Update: Backsplash Tile Sealed

We were on a roll this weekend, we not only painted the nursery ceiling and organized the room, we also sealed the backsplash. We just have to caulk the seams and add a finished edge to the spaces next to the window, but then it’s done! Here are some updated photos, but please look past all the dishes in the sink and the fridge not in the correct spot!

We’re so happy with our penny tile, it gives our kitchen a much more classy look, I love how they shine and reflect light!

Sometimes I try to remember what our kitchen looked like before our update, but then I’m glad I don’t remember!

Nursery Update

This weekend Drew and I didn’t leave our house on Saturday and were able to spend some time getting the nursery ready! We painted the ceilings since there were a few spots from the previous owners, and then started putting everything in its right place to get organized. Here are a few updated photos with some additions like the rocking chair and lamp, but still missing lots of things!

We’re just waiting on the crib to arrive (which will go on the remaining empty wall), and then all the furniture will be set. Next up will be deciding where we’re going to hang everything on the walls. We have a large mirror, collage type items, shelves for books and a few other pieces. I’ve been searching pinterest for some ideas as far as what to hang over the crib and changing table/desk.

If you don’t remember, here is my original “moodboard” for the room.

Eddy seems to spend a lot of time in the room, I secretly think he thinks it’s his. But he’ll be in for a big surprise come June!

22 Weeks

22 weeks today!

Baby has been getting more active everyday. This week Drew was able to finally feel her move around! Everyone says it’s the coolest feeling and they are so right.

We worked on her nursery a bit this week (I’ll post photos tomorrow) and finally ordered the crib because it came back in stock. It’s supposed to arrive Thursday, and I don’t think we’ll wait to set it up, so excited!

21 Weeks

Today marks 21 weeks, only 19 more to go!

21 weeks pregnant

I’d have to say this week was pretty un-eventful baby-wise. I did however start cleaning out the nursery a bit more and finished painting the window frame white (that I started over a year ago). What’s left to do? Paint the ceiling, purchase theĀ crib (when it finally comes back in stock), hang some decor up on the walls and then organize all her things.

This nursery business is a piece of cake compared to the rest of our “to-do list before baby” that would include…

  • Paint kitchen ceiling
  • Seal tile/grout backsplash in kitchen
  • Replace 4 doors upstairs
  • Bathroom remodel (tear out and re-tile shower, tile the floor, paint the vanity, replace countertop, paint the walls, yikes!)
  • Clean garage & basement

Fingers crossed we can finish in time!

20 Weeks!

This weekend marked the halfway point, this baby is half done baking! Since I was at my sisters this weekend, we thought we’d do a silhouette shot together. Here she is 27 weeks with her second baby, and I’m 20 weeks. Ha, my belly looks so pointy compared to Becky’s.

This week I while Drew was in China, I worked on cleaning up the nursery. I also inventoried all her clothes and things I have for her already, so that I can make sure we register for everything we’re missing.

And finally, we officially decided on a name together, but we aren’t sharing it until she’s born. Eek can’t wait!

19 Weeks!

Today marks 19 weeks pregnant… only 21 to go!

Yesterday we had our anatomy scan/ultrasound. It’s where they measure every little tiny thing, such as legs, arms, head, stomach, heart, liver, kidneys. That also means we got to see our baby for quite some time. Unfortunately, I totally forgot to eat a snack on the way to the appointment. I was hoping it would give her a little boost to move around. So instead she was sleeping in the most uncomfortable positions. Like completely folded in half with her feet above her head. Towards the end of the appointment she started moving a tiny bit and would suck on her toes.

The tech also confirmed it was a girl (we didn’t even tell her we already knew) so I feel pretty comfortable purchasing all the girl stuff now. Now, we just have to narrow down the name!

I think Eddy will be a good big brother, the way he always has to check out all the stuff we buy for her, or the fact that he kept trying to get in the photos above. Though he is totally terrified of the Mamaroo.

A Light 1.5 Years In the Making

When we first moved into our home almost a year and a half ago I knew the living room needed a huge statement light since the ceilings were so tall. So we picked out the Ikea Maskros light in the larger size. It’s basically a giant light that looks like an Allium. I loved it in the store, on blogs and I knew I’d love it in our home… so we bought it 1 and a half years ago.

Since then it’s been sitting in the living room behind a couch waiting for someone brave enough to hang it up. The delay in hanging it was because we thought we’d need scaffolding to swap out the existing ceiling fan and replace it with the light. Except, the last time my dad was over, he thought they may have a tall enough ladder at work and was willing to give it a shot!

Yesterday he brought it over and luckily enough it worked. He started the process of taking down the fan and switching out the wiring, and I started assembling all 160 paper flowers onto the giant fans that make up the ball. Then one by one I’d hand them to my dad and he’d snap them into place. I’m so thankful he did that part, I probably would have fainted from the height. So here it is…. (ps it looks way bigger in real life than in photos; it’s diameter is 32″!)

I love how it fills the void that is the huge walls and fireplace since you just can’t fill every little space with a photo or piece of artwork. What is also cool is when you turn on the light at night. Picture giant flowers projected all around the room. We could totally have a dance party, just put the light on a motor!

18 Weeks

Today I’m 18 weeks. And even though I still get comments all the time that I’m not showing yet, I feel like I am. My clothes definitely are starting to get tighter!

This Friday we have another dr appointment along with our anatomy scan/ultrasound. I always look forward to them since that’s really the only time you are re-assured, yup I’m pregnant. We’ll also have the dr verify that it is a girl again from our early gender ultrasound.

I also think I’m starting to feel the baby move a bit. It’s very faint flutters so far, but I know in just about 2 weeks or so I’ll feel full on kicks and I won’t be able to deny it! Only 22 weeks until she’s here, which is kind of crazy when you think about it. I’ve already started making a list of things we need to do/finish before she’s here so that this summer and the following 6 months we don’t have any house projects and we can just eat it all up.

Backsplash Sneak Peek

We got a chance to start the backsplash while we had off work for Christmas and New Years! I totally forgot to whip out my nice camera during the process (since I was helping and all) but here are some few shots I took with my iPhone.

So here is the process of putting up the tile with pre-mixed thin set… grouting is next!

We love it so far. It seriously makes our kitchen look so rich and I’m sure this project will increase the value of our home a lot! And to think, this tile cost under $100! Also, one of my favorite parts so far is how little waste we had, since you can pop off penny rounds if you noticed an imperfection and replace with a perfect one, or when you cut them in half, you could use the other half elsewhere. Here is our pile of “waste”… which were ones that broke while trying to cut them in half. Not bad!

Kitchen Countertops

This post is very belated, but finally, here are photos of our kitchen countertops, sink and new faucet! (Nevermind some of the clutter like cereal boxes, I don’t live in a magazine house)

We went with WilsonArt Laminate in the Pearl Soapstone finish. We chose the “self edge” so that it would look more like concrete. Our sink is a Karran under-mounted quartz sink which we love the under-mount feature and the color. It’s so nice to just be able to wipe stuff in the sink from the counter. It’s also a lot bigger and deeper than our last sink, so it’ll be perfect for baby’s bath-time! Our faucet is called Kohler Simplice and we love the pull down spray feature + stainless steel finish. It’s super fancy compared to our old sink/faucet set up. We feel like a million bucks.

We also replaced the garbage disposal because it was so corroded when we had to take it apart for the new sink. Unfortunately a few days after we installed it there was an issue with the motor and then had to replace it again! Fun stuff – now we’re still double checking for leaks, but so far, it seems like everything is good and set. Overall we are super happy with how it all turned out!

Next up, the backsplash!
