Babywise & Emerald

Ever since Emerald was born we tried to follow the Babywise schedule. It was really the only book I had “read” (it’s in quotes because I haven’t quite read the whole book yet) and had a few friends recommend it, so figured why not. I figured with me working it was really important we get on a schedule so she 1. sleeps at night 2. behaves for her babysitters.

As a newborn she followed the schedule easily, probably because she liked to sleep so much. But around three months we definitely had our trying times where she wasn’t a great day time napper. But, I think sticking to Babywise and being consistent with sleep training (aka letting her fall asleep on her own) has finally paid off and nap time is now a breeze!

We can literally put her in her crib and she’ll fuss for a minute or two and then she’s out (hallelujah!). I think she knows it’s coming now too and is happy to rest her eyes a bit. We’ve also learned she likes a few things like a blanket in her face, her nook, her sound machine to help her get in the mood for sleepy time.

I hear there is a four month sleep regression, but really hoping it skips us, ha!

Life at Four Months – Emerald

Emerald’s life at four months is still pretty simple: eat, sleep, and play. In addition she likes to throw out dirty looks with her eyebrows, tries to sit and rebels eating cereal. She’d like to stay a baby forever, and that might be ok with us, ha.

Emerald Eats!

At Emerald’s four month baby well appointment, her doctor told us to start her on cereal.

She’s been interested in sitting at the dinner table for quite some time and takes interest in our food and tries to grab it. But when we sat her down in her high chair to try some cereal, she wasn’t a fan!

We first teased her with some Lucky Charms, Drew’s favorite… she was happy with that idea!

Then we gave her the real stuff (watch this clip). She was smiles for a bit, but basically spit it all out (she’s still learning to close her mouth and swallow vs. using her tongue to spit it out). So we’ll keep trying a little at a time, and hopefully she’ll get that down and take more interest! For now it’s just another fun activity…

This face basically sums up how much she enjoys baby cereal…

Emerald // 4 Months Old

Our little gem is four months old today!

She weighs about 12 lbs (we’ll confirm at her doctors appointment next week, along with her height) now, she’s still our little peanut! She’s wearing 0-3 or 3 month clothes and size 1 diapers. This month she rolled over for the first time, belly laughed and squeals with excitement like no one’s business. She also had her first cold (along with Drew and I) and had her first ear infection, poor baby.

We successfully transitioned her to sleeping in her crib at night, usually sleeping 8-9 hours! She definitely has her favorite people, she loves her mom and dad and her grammie (my mom), and sometimes is scared of others and cries, like when she’s in the nursery.

She is definitely developing a little personality and is constantly making us laugh, we love her so much!

Emerald can’t wait to try solid food this next month, as she’s been very interested at eating at the dinner table with us!

Check out her 4 month video too!

The Perfect Fall – Emerald

And another beautiful day to just chill in the grass + she was all dressed up from church, so we had to take photos 😉

This girl has become so much fun the past few weeks! Her smiles, giggles and personality crack us up all the time, this has easily become the most fun age (so far, ha) but I’m sure we’ll love every moment to come.

A couple months ago if I laid her in the grass, she would have just stared back at me and couldn’t have cared less. Now she’ll feel the grass, lick the grass and try to eat it. It’s sad to think she’s growing up, but I’m glad growing up means it’s even better and it’s so fun to watch her learn and discover new things. Can’t wait to put her in a big pile of leaves this fall and play in the snow in the winter.

Cousin Time

It’s always fun when all the kids are together, also because that means almost all of us sisters are together! Never thought it would come to this, but my sisters are my bffs and we love hanging out.

It’s basically impossible to get 4 kids under the age of 3 to pose for a photo. We tried, but then we just decided to take some of Emerald by herself, since she was being good 😉

All wondering “what’s wrong Charleigh?”

Mondays

Mondays are usually everyone’s least favorite day, and I totally get it because it used to be mine as well. Not anymore. It’s not my absolute favorite because I still favor Saturdays and Sundays when we get to spend time with Drew too, but Monday’s are definitely third favorite now 🙂

Today was the perfect fall day to spend a little time outside (and meeting dad for Chick-Fila, that turned into Potbelly’s because of the insane long line)…
