Patio Garden 2011 – Update 3 – Lilies

I’ve been taking photos everyday to document the changes in these plants, and I finally had time to weed through them and post them! This garden update we will call Lilies, because that is what was most in bloom this month or so. Next up will be the dahlias!

This is what is going to be in bloom next…Dahlias!

I have a couple plants that like to stay inside… like  a fern, an aloe plant that I call a cactus, a begonia, and a mini lion king tree from ikea.

Patio Garden 2011 – Update 2

Here is an update now that Summer is actually here! Now I’ve planted lots of things we had leftovers of at work, such as Lilies, Elephant Ears, Dahlias, Begonias, and more. So many actually I am having a hard time what is planted where. It’ll be a surprise later when they bloom.

We also got these super nice pottery containers from leftovers, which then I had to go buy something larger to place inside it. So I planted a rose bush and a few other things.

This poor guy got fried when I put him outside…

Patio Garden 2011

It is my goal this year since now that I work at a place that sells flower bulbs… to:
A. Have a patio garden
B. Not kill the plants.
It is still pretty cold here, but I started some seeds inside and outside. Here is their progress. Also, I’ll be starting some more “bulbs” later once we have stock left over once the selling season is over. Look for updates and keep me accountable for not killing them.

Vanessa’s Florida Work Trip

Vanessa went to Orlando for a web conference for her new job. It was super duper awesome to get away to the warm weather and learn more about my new job, however it was the first time we had been away from each other. I totally cried as I said good bye for a whole whopping three days. And it was our first valentine’s day as married peeps, and had to celebrate early since I’d be gone. But I survived and have these pictures to prove how awesome Florida is.

Eddy even wanted to go with me.

New Job for Vanessa

Sorry we have been holding out on everyone lately, we have been insanely busy the past few weeks with Christmas coming up, my sister’s wedding and getting ready for a NEW JOB! I had been applying to places like crazy for a few months now and was getting no where, and then this opportunity came out of the blue. On January 10, I will be the new graphic/web designer for the Holland Beauty E-Commerce sites, under the leadership of Jon Studer. Jon just emailed me one day to see if I could come in to talk about the position and I new right away it was the opportunity I’ve been waiting and looking for. God has perfect timing.

I will be working on the design side of the E-Commerce Sites, HollandBulbFarms.com and TulipWorld.com, as well as the future iPhone app, iMyGarden. So get ready for some new work. My internship and freelancing with Birds&Blooms of Readers Digest Association will hopefully help inside this flower world. I’ll be learning a lot of new things at this new job and am so excited to expand my knowledge. I don’t want to ever stop learning.

While I am excited to start this new amazing opportunity, I will miss my friends at VIF. It has been a good three years of learning and developing my skill, but it is time to move on to bigger and better things.

Vanessa’s Etsy Headband Featured in Curb Magazine

Students of UW-Madison, create a student produced magazine each semester. In October, one of the students contacted me to feature one of my etsy creations, the blue headband, in a spread about etsy creators from Wisconsin. So I shipped off my headband to be featured. The magazine is complete and I was so excited to see it on the spread. Take a look! Thank you, Julia and Cailley, for letting me be part. The magazine looks awesome! You can view the online/blog form at www.curbonline.com, otherwise you can view the magazine-styled one here.

Be sure to check out my etsy shop, www.vanessawyler.etsy.com. I have some example of things I can create. I can do other colors than you see, so contact me if you have something you want me to make!

I love the site, it has become so helpful when I’m at a creative roadblock, and has also helped with I’ve been stuck with a design and needed someone else’s point of view. There are some really talented people out there!

So anyway, I’m so honored to be featured. It made my day!

*PS. Thanks Valo for the awesome profile picture. I’m pretty sure they might have just liked my picture.

Gone Fishing

So a year or two ago, my dad got a fishing boat. It took me a few years to actually get on it and fish. The beginning of summer, I got up real early to go with my dad and sister Jess. We were out there for 5 hours and caught zero. It was sad.

So again, for my dad’s birthday I figured I’d try it one more time. If we didn’t catch anything I promised to never go again, for the fear of being bad luck. Turns out we caught 13.5 fish. Jess – 9. Me – 4.5. Dad – 0. I felt bad seeing as it was his birthday!

Here is a photo of me and my fish.

We threw back all our fish, but this one died because he swallowed the hook. Dang fishy. Sorry!

*PS .5 fish = fish on hook, out of water, but never made it onto boat.
